Nokia Lumia 530 Tips and Tricks

If you are listening to the radio and like a song, but don’t know the name or artist, your phone can help you. This is similar to the Shazam music service.

Simply open the Bing App and press the Music button. The phone will then search for the song and provide you the song, artist, album cover and a link to purchase the track (or album) from the Zune marketplace.

If you use multiple Windows or Windows Phone device, then Sync My Settings is a great feature.

This can be found by going to Settings – Sync My Settings and can be used to sync Apps, Themes, Passwords and Web Browser settings across multiple devices. For example you may use a phone and a tablet during the day and want to be able to keep websites open in your browser as you move between the devices.

A neat feature is the idea of Rooms, which allow other Windows Phone users to share pictures, chat, make appointments and so on.

First, go to the People Hub and the word ‘together’ should appear. From here press the ‘+’ key at the bottom and then choose Room. Then choose a name and press the save button (floppy disc symbol) at the bottom.

Next, you can press the ‘+’ at the bottom and add people to the room, just like you would navigate your Contact list.

When you’ve added everyone you want to include, press the Tick symbol and your contacts will now be told about the new Room (assuming they have a Windows Phone).

Your phone has a neat feature where if you’re running late for appointment, you can quickly notify the person you’re supposed to be meeting.

First, go to your Calendar App and you should see four options at the bottom. One of these should say Late and should have a symbol of a person running.

Press this and the person you’re meeting will be notified with some sorry text.

Microsoft may still be in denial, but Bing is not the best search engine in the world and most Windows Phone users would prefer to use Google by default.

As you might expect from a Microsoft phone, you can’t disable Bing by default, but you can go to the App Store and download the Google Search App.

Once you have that, then simply Pin this to your Start screen so it’s easily accessible.

While browsing websites, if you see a phone number or a physical address, you can double tap the number / address. For phone numbers, the phone will dial the number. For addresses, it will show the address on Bing Maps. This may not work for all carriers.

If your phone is on standby, there is an option where if you hold down the camera button it will wake the phone up and launch directly into the camera app. This is great if you want to snap a photo quickly.

From the homescreen, scroll to the right and choose Settings – Applications. Then find Pictures + Camera. Then turn the top option to on.

If you are looking at your photos you need to be zoomed out before you can swipe left or right to go to the next photo. If you are zoomed in, swiping left or right will simply pan around the photo

To share websites that you are browsing on Facebook or Twitter, you can simply press the More (ƒ?Ý) and then select Share page.

If you want to add or change languages on your phone, then go to Settings – Language+region.

Here you can choose languages and download / install if necessary. You can then jump between languages easily from this menu.
