If you have a number of apps open and you want to close some of them, then the best way to do this is to long press the phone’s back button. Then press the X icon next to each app, or simply swipe the app downwards.

To turn on Caps lock, double press the Shift key.

To turn it off, simply double tap Shift again to disable.

Because of the touch screen sensitivity, it can be hard to position the cursor within a certain word. To get around this, Press and Hold on a word. While dragging the cursor along the letters, pull your finger down. The cursor will move along, but you will be able to see it as your finger will be out of the way

If you are listening to music and want to see the Artist’s album art on your lock screen there is a feature for this. Go to Start – Applications list – Settings – Lock + wallpaper. Then turn on Show artist art when playing music.

To protect your phone from kids, Windows Phone comes with a Kids Corner feature.

To activate it, go to Settings – Kids Corner and enable it. You can then enable or disable certain content that you want to prevent access to. Options include games, videos, music and apps.

Once it is setup, swipe from Right to Left and you should see Kids Corner. And then swipe Down to Up to remove the Lock Screen.

A neat future of Windows Phone is the Glance settings for your Lock Screen which allows you to setup a number of useful Glance or Peek features when your phone is in Standby. Normally on your lock screen you can Glance at the time, but there are many more options.

To find these options, go to Settings – Glance Screen.

From here you can setup quite a few options, including a timeout if you’re concerned about using your battery when using this feature. You can also set it up so that when you Glance at night, it will show a dark colour rather than a white glare which is hard on the eyes.

Simply Press and Hold on a text message and choose Delete

To turn off Geo-tagging for photos, go to Settings – Applications – Pictures & Camera.

Then change ‘include location (GPS) information in pictures you take’

While viewing a website, press the 3 dots at the bottom of the screen. Then click on Find on page. Then search for the word you want to find

If you would like your phone to read out text to you, then you can use an accessibility option by going to Settings – Ease Of Access. Once this is enabled your phone will narrate text that is displayed on the screen.

This feature is currently only available in some countries, however if you go to Settings – Region and select the United States, then this will work for you. It will however read things out with US style currency and dates.
