A neat future of Windows Phone is the Glance settings for your Lock Screen which allows you to setup a number of useful Glance or Peek features when your phone is in Standby. Normally on your lock screen you can Glance at the time, but there are many more options.

To find these options, go to Settings – Glance Screen.

From here you can setup quite a few options, including a timeout if you’re concerned about using your battery when using this feature. You can also set it up so that when you Glance at night, it will show a dark colour rather than a white glare which is hard on the eyes.

If you would like your phone to read out text to you, then you can use an accessibility option by going to Settings – Ease Of Access. Once this is enabled your phone will narrate text that is displayed on the screen.

This feature is currently only available in some countries, however if you go to Settings – Region and select the United States, then this will work for you. It will however read things out with US style currency and dates.

While entering a website address you can Press and Hold the .com key on the keyboard. This will give you the option of other domain suffixes (e.g. .org, .co.uk, .com.au etc.)

A handy feature with Mango is the ability to update your Facebook status with your voice.

If you haven’t already done so, you will need to Register a Phone and Activate Text Messaging. To set this up, log in to your Facebook account and go to Account Settings. Then on the left side, click Mobile, then click Add a Phone. You will be asked to enter your password and your phone settings. You will then be asked to send a text to Facebook to confirm your phone. Facebook will then send you a confirmation code to your phone, which you will then need to type into Facebook to complete the setup.

Next you will need to set Facebook up as a Contact on your phone. Go to the People Hub, press the Plus (+) icon, then press New Contact, then enter Facebook for the Contact’s name. Then enter the phone number as 32665. (you may need to check this here http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=217343558285214 if you don’t live in the UK, US or other common countries)

Once that is setup, you just say Text Facebook on your phone. Then speak your message and say Send. This will then send the message to Facebook which will update your status.

A recent addition to Windows Phone is what’s called Wi-Fi sense which allows you to share your trusted Wi-Fi networks with your friends on Facebook, Outlook, Skype etc. They must also use a recent version of Windows Phone however.

The feature allows you to share your Wi-Fi credentials with your contacts although they won’t actually see the password.

To enable Wi-Fi Sense then go to Settings – Wi-Fi and scroll down where you will find it.

If you are listening to music and want to see the Artist’s album art on your lock screen there is a feature for this. Go to Start – Applications list – Settings – Lock + wallpaper. Then turn on Show artist art when playing music.

Microsoft may still be in denial, but Bing is not the best search engine in the world and most Windows Phone users would prefer to use Google by default.

As you might expect from a Microsoft phone, you can’t disable Bing by default, but you can go to the App Store and download the Google Search App.

Once you have that, then simply Pin this to your Start screen so it’s easily accessible.

Go to Settings – Applications – Phone to display your number
