Android now comes with some great battery management built into the OS.

Pull down your notifications screen and select Settings. Then go to Battery ?and you will see some useful stats such as the time remaining. There are also two other options: Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode. Select one of these to really make your phone last the distance.

Be warned that these can limit your device quite considerably.

You can also increase Battery Life by minimizing the numbers of Apps running in the background.

To add an email or phone number to your contacts from a text message, you can long-press on the email / phone number. Then select Add to contacts

If you call someone regularly this can be useful as you will have a shortcut to them handily placed on your homescreen.

Then press More or the Menu key and select Add shortcut to home.

If you want to access certain features of your device that are only available to developers, then you want the Developer options setting.

On most devices, this feature is hidden so you will need to pull down your notifications screen go into Settings. Then scroll down to About device.

Then you should see Build Number. This needs to be pressed a total of seven times. You should get a message at the fourth press. On the seventh, you’ll get another message saying that Developer Options are unlocked.

If you find the vibration of your phone a little too much, this can easily be reduced.

Go to Settings. Then select System – Language and input – your keyboard – Preferences. From here you can change the vibration settings.

Sometimes you might want to let someone borrow your phone, but you don’t want them messing with your settings or using some of your Apps.

Fortunately there is now a mode called Guest Mode/Add User. It may not be available on all models or phones but it can be accessed by swiping two fingers down from the top of the phone. Then select the User icon at the top right of the phone. Then select Add Guest.

Alternatively Go to Setting – System- Multiple users. then select Guest/Add User

To exit guest mode, just repeat the above steps but select Remove Guest instead.

Sometimes you may need your screen to stay on when plugged in via USB.

To do this, Drag down your notifications screen and press Settings. Then under System, select Developer Options. Then check Stay Awake.

If you can’t see Developer options then you need to enable this. Go to Settings – System – About device and press on Build number 7 times. Developer options will now appear in the System section of your settings.

If you want to check how much RAM you have available, drag down your notifications screen and select Settings.

Then under Device, select storage.

Next, under the relevant sections you can see storage used by Apps, Images, Videos etc.

At the top it should say how much is being used and how much is free & there is one more option under this ‘Free Up Space’ to free some space manually.

There is also one toggle option of ‘Storage Manager’.

This is useful to free up storage space and remove backed up photos/videos from device.
