Unless you are one of the lucky few who has an unlimited data plan, then you will want to avoid going over your monthly data limit. Fortunately there is a Windows Phone feature called Data Sense.

This feature allows you to monitor your data and Wi-Fi usage and also which Apps are using the most data. You can also set a download limit per month so you don’t go over your allowance which includes the ability to prevent background downloading when you are close to your limit.

Data Sense can be found in your App Drawer.

To turn off the camera shutter sound follow these steps:

Go to Start – Applications list – Settings – Ringtones + sounds. Then press Camera shutter to turn it off.

This can be useful if you are taking photos in a quiet place, so that you do not disturb others.

This option might not be available in all regions however.

To change the screen lock timeout, go to Settings – Lock & wallpaper. Then choose the duration before the screen locks.

This is handy so you don’t accidentally bump the keys when the phone is in your pocket. It will also improve your battery life.

The phone’s Browser is designed to use as much of the phone’s screen as possible, however this means the status bar is usually hidden.

To quickly view the status bar with Time, Battery Indicator and Signal Strength, quickly press More (ƒ?Ý) or the Address Bar. This will show the bar. Alternatively you can press and hold the More button and drag it up slightly to reveal the status bar. Drag it down again to discard it.

If you are browsing a website and read something that you want to find out more about, simply highly the text. Then press the Search / Hardware button. The phone will then search for that highlighted word on Bing. This is much quicker than having to open a new browser Tab and searching manually.

There are a number of ways to get your IMEI number.

First, the easiest option is to look at the label of the box that your phone came in.

Secondly, if your phone has a removable battery then open the cover and remove the battery. Your IMEI should be on a serial number plate and your IMEI number should be shown there.

Lastly, from the Dialler, enter *#06# and it should be displayed on the screen. This won’t work on all phones and all networks however.

To improve focus while using the Camera app, you can press on a specific spot on the screen to focus there.

Also, when taking photos, press the Camera button down halfway to focus. Then depress it fully to take the photo.

To soft reset your phone, hold down the power button for a few seconds.

Then wait for 5-10 seconds and hold down the power button again to restart the phone.

If the phone is really frozen, then try holding down the power button for around 10 seconds to turn it off.

To set this up, go to your App Drawer and load OneNote. From here you can make, edit or share notes. To search for specific notes you can use the magnifying glass and press the + key to add a new note.
