If you have used up all of your Quick Launch spaces, then there is a trick to provide you more.
First, press and drag an App from the home screen and move it over the top of an App in the Quick Launch area. Then release your finger.
This will create a folder containing the original App plus the new one.
This is a great way to have access to regularly used Apps.
If you don’t like the default A-Z way of viewing your contacts you can change this.
First, go to your Contacts App and press the Menu key or More at the top of the screen.
Then select Settings.
Then choose Sort by.
While in your email App, a handy trick is to pinch and zoom out to see a ‘day view’ of your emails. This is handy if you have a lot of emails and want to quickly sort them by recency.
If you find the vibration of your phone a little too much, this can easily be reduced.
Go to Settings. Then select System – Language and input.
Then select the keyboard you’re using.
From here you can change the vibration settings.
To change keyboards (if you have additional keyboards installed), you can switch between them by pressing the small keyboard symbol in the top left of your screen. You will need to be in keyboard input mode (i.e. typing something) for this to work.
Note: you need to have more than one keyboard installed for this to work.
If you see the following errors:
Resting robot
Exclamation point (for rooted phones)
No command
This indicates that your phone is in Android Recovery mode and often appear when you try to recover or reboot.
To fix this, follow these steps:
1. Once any of the three appears, press and hold your phone’s volume up button for 10-15 seconds.
2. Next, without letting go of the volume up button, press and release the power button once. It will display a menu.
3. Navigate around the menu using the volume button.
4. Select Reboot System Now and your phone should be rebooting
Alternatively, you can do the following:
1. When any of the three appears, press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
2. Then, without letting go of the power button, press and release the volume up button, once. It will display the same menu.
3. Select Reboot System Now and your phone should reboot.
If Reboot System Now doesn’t work try updating first.
While the stock standard keyboard is fine, there are much better keyboards available. First, you need to go to the Play Store and download one. Try searching for the word ‘keyboard’ and you will see a number of options.
One of the best keyboards is a keyboard called Swiftkey, which is a top-rate App. This will literally change the way you feel about your phone as the standard keyboard can be quite a frustrating experience.
Download your chosen keyboard and go through any install steps that you are presented with.
If you see a warning saying the keyboard will collect all information (including credit cards) just ignore this. This is just a security feature that Android shows for every third-party keyboard that you install.
Then, go to the App you want to type in. You should now see a little Keyboard icon on the row at the bottom of your screen, towards the bottom-right corner. Press that icon and you can switch between all of the keyboards you have installed.
To copy files between your phone and PC, go to the Android Play Market and search for one of the following top rates Apps:
Air Droid
Shareit
Xender
Superbeam
These are all useful Apps which allow you to connect your phone to your PC wirelessly, allowing you to move files and many other things.
Alternatively if you just want to copy using USB then simply plug the standard micro USB cable into your phone and it should appear as another drive on your PC.
When using your Calendar App, you will normally be in Month view. To quickly switch to Year view, you can pinch the screen to zoom out.
This is useful if you want to quickly jump backwards or forwards through a few months at a time.
To go from Year to Month, you can do a reverse pinch.
If you would prefer not to be told every time an Application has been updated, open the Play Store and press the Hamburger / Menu icons in the top left.
Then select Settings and untick the App updates available option.
