There is very little that a modern smartphone can’t do, making it an excellent personal assistant and entertainment center all rolled into one. Unfortunately, storing apps, files, images, and more, can really take a toll on your phone’s memory. Not only will you end up running out of space; there is also a good chance that your phone may slow down or not function smoothly, as a result. As you can imagine, the only logical thing to do here is to create more space. To find out how to do this, check out the tips below:

Take Note of the Usage

First things first, you need to understand just what factors on your phone are to blame for all the memory being used up. It is only by identifying the biggest culprits that you will be able to thoroughly clean out your memory. Now, for the most part, figuring out what’s eating up all your memory is fairly simple. The Storage category under Settings should give you a brief idea of the main usage. Smart Manager is also an option available on certain phones.

There are some limitations with taking this route though, as it only gives you a broad overview of what to look for. It will not specify individual files that take up too much room. The good news is that there are apps such as Files Go that will give you a closer look at what you need to delete.

Clear Cached Data

If you have ever gone through the categories and folders in Storage, you would undoubtedly have come across a section labeled Cached Data. In case you’re wondering what this is, it’s to do with Android apps. See, the apps on your phone use cached data to provide you with a smoother and faster service – but not by much. In some instances, this cached data can also work to save you some mobile data as well.

However, at the end of the day, it isn’t actually essential to your overall user experience. This is why you can delete it and not notice any changes in the way you use apps or your phone. What you will see, however, is a great deal of memory being freed up.

Move Your Images

The age of selfies and Instagram means that your phone is probably filled to the brim with images. Unlike apps, however, most people are loath to delete their pictures. After all, in many instances, these images hold a lot of meaning. That being said, you can’t exactly leave them on your phone for long as they take up too much space.

With this dilemma, there are a few solutions available to you. The first is to move it to the cloud, perhaps using Google Images or a similar option. Now, the perk of this option is that you can access your images virtually anywhere. At the same time, some people don’t feel too comfortable storing their images here. Then, there is the old-fashioned way of storing pictures on your computer.

Now, if you want to build a collection, it can be useful to store images on DVDs. However, you will have to make sure that your laptop has the necessary equipment for you to do this. By doing this, you will not have to worry about a hard drive getting erased or your computer crashing.

Sort Out Your Apps

Ah, apps – it is difficult to imagine life without them. At the same time, when it comes to phone memory, they can also be the bane of your existence. Now, you will first need to go through all the apps on your phone. If you haven’t used them in a few months, then it is time to get rid of them. Make it a point to uninstall them and delete any associated files.

Of course, there are going to be quite a few apps that you need to keep. In this instance, you will need to turn to external storage options – SD cards. In case you don’t already have one, make sure you select a card that will be suitable for all your storage needs. This way, you will not face the risk of running out of memory again.

These are all the different methods you can utilize to free up memory on your phone. You are sure to notice a big difference in how it functions once you have tried out some of these options.
