Nokia Lumia 635 Tips and Tricks

If you would like to project the content of your phone’s screen to your PC or TV to show off photos or videos to your friends, then this is how to do it.

Project to TV – First you will need a TV that supports Wireless Miracast technology, although many modern Smart TV will support this. First you should go to Settings – System – Project My Screen. If you have problems with this then press Advanced and then Fix. You may also want to check that your TV has the latest software version installed.

Project to PC – Some PCs will also support this, but if they don’t then you can still connect your Phone to your PC via a USB cable and Microsoft’s Project My Screen App from the Microsoft website. This can be found here. Further instructions can also be found on this page.

While viewing a website, press the 3 dots at the bottom of the screen. Then click on Find on page. Then search for the word you want to find

While playing a song, press the Album cover. This will then give you the option to rate the song. Press the heart to Love It. Press it again to Hate It. Then when you sync your phone, it won’t sync the music you don’t like

A neat feature is the idea of Rooms, which allow other Windows Phone users to share pictures, chat, make appointments and so on.

First, go to the People Hub and the word ‘together’ should appear. From here press the ‘+’ key at the bottom and then choose Room. Then choose a name and press the save button (floppy disc symbol) at the bottom.

Next, you can press the ‘+’ at the bottom and add people to the room, just like you would navigate your Contact list.

When you’ve added everyone you want to include, press the Tick symbol and your contacts will now be told about the new Room (assuming they have a Windows Phone).

If you would like to turn on text message notifications (delivery reports for SMSs) then go to Settings – Applications – Messaging and change it there

To save or share pictures on websites, then find a picture you want to share/save.

Then press and hold on the image.

An option to share or save will appear.

Sometimes, especially if you’re going abroad, you will want to save maps to view when your phone is offline.

This isn’t an obvious feature to find, but you should go to Settings – Applications – Maps – Download Maps.

From here you can download whole regions, countries or continents to your phone for viewing when you don’t have a data connection. Be warned that this can take up a lot of storage space however. For example the whole of the UK might take around 500Mb of storage space.

You can use your smartphone as an Xbox controller.

First, download and install the Xbox SmartGlass App (formerly known as My Xbox Live). Once this is installed go to Xbox hub and make sure your Xbox is turned on and connected to your Wi-Fi router. Then make sure the phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

If that is all setup, then the App will sign you in and you can start controlling your Xbox with the phone.
