If you use multiple Windows or Windows Phone device, then Sync My Settings is a great feature.

This can be found by going to Settings – Sync My Settings and can be used to sync Apps, Themes, Passwords and Web Browser settings across multiple devices. For example you may use a phone and a tablet during the day and want to be able to keep websites open in your browser as you move between the devices.

Bing Vision is a great tool which works in a similar way to the QR / Barcode scanner on some phones.

Open the Bing Vision App and it will use phone’s camera to take a phone of an object, product, book etc. It will then scan any text on the object and search for relevant information. It can also translate the text into another language.

Any example might be to scan the cover of a book. Vision will search for the book and provide you a price comparison from various book sellers.

Instead of copying and pasting text you see on a website, you can highlight a word. Then press the Search button to search for the word on Bing

If you would like to turn on text message notifications (delivery reports for SMSs) then go to Settings – Applications – Messaging and change it there

If you are looking at your photos you need to be zoomed out before you can swipe left or right to go to the next photo. If you are zoomed in, swiping left or right will simply pan around the photo

To create a conference call on your phone, you need to first call someone.

Then when they are on the line, press the Down arrow on the screen and press Add to call and select another Contact.

Then when you’ve found the second person, press Merge calls

To clear your browsing history so that no one can see which websites you have been browsing, go to Settings – Applications – Search.

Then select Delete History

Not every one wants to have their Apps automatically updated. Some prefer to be able to choose, especially when the Apps can take quite some time and data to download.

To disable this automatic settings (which is the default from Windows Phone 8.1), then go to your App Store – Settings and untick Update apps automatically.

To edit a photo after you have taken it, navigate to your chosen image and press the symbol that looks like three full stops in the bottom right corner. From here, select Edit.

You will now be presented with a number of options such as Crop, Rotate, Auto-fix and Creative Studio.

It is possible to take a screenshot using Windows Phone however the process has changed from Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 8.1. Below we have described both methods for clarity:

Windows Phone 8 – Simply press and hold the Windows key and the Power key together. You might need to hold it for a second or so until the phone registers the combination. You should hear a click sound.

To view the screenshot, then go to Photos – Albums – Screenshots. They should be saved as PNG files.

Windows Phone 8.1 – If you try the above method on this version of WP, then you will see a warning that the combo has changed. The new combination is as follows: Press and hold the Power and Volume Up keys together. As above, you may need to hold for a second or so.
