HTC Rhyme Release Date and Photos
This week HTC announced a phone aimed primarily at the female market. Known as the HTC Rhyme, the prolific phone maker thankfully departs from the traditional pink colouring: the Rhyme is available in Plum (pictured) and Clearwater (a light goldish colour).
The Rhyme, which was formerly called the HTC Bliss, was launched on Tuesday at a swanky event inside the High Line Stages – a warehouse studio space in New York’s Meatpacking district. The event, complete with fluffy rugs and comfy sofas, attracted plenty of media attention when it was announced that HTC would be launching a device aimed at the ‘lifestyle market’. HTC, who teamed up with Verizon for the launch, have actually avoided referring to the female market, but we’ll leave it to you to draw your own conclusions from the following.
The phone will run on Android 2.3, and will use the latest version of HTC’s familiar Sense user interface. Sense UI 3.5 has been subtly tweaked however to give a more refined and polished look to the homescreens and Apps screen. For example the usual HTC homescreen clock has been made to look more elegant and less dominating. Also, widgets and homescreen transitions have been redesigned to give the phone a sleeker, sexier feel. The user can also remove homescreens should they not require all seven of them. Other features include a new camera application which includes automatic face detection, and the app will allow automatic uploading of photos to your Facebook account.
If you’re wondering what separates this smartphone from the rest (apart from not being black or grey), then wonder no more. The phone will ship with a charging dock which will allow the phone to sit conveniently angled; great for a bedside clock / alarm arrangement. Also included are very useful ‘tangle-free’ headphones which will match the colour of the phone. HTC have gone a step further however and designed a neat little purple cube that they call a Charm. The cube plugs in to the headphone jack and when you receive a call or text it will glow. The idea is that when your phone is in your handbag (or man bag perhaps), you can keep an eye on the cube to check for alerts.
In terms of specs, the gorgeous looking phone has a 3.7 inch Super LCD screen, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and 768Mb RAM. More specs include a removable SDCard, however the battery is not removable. It is 1600Mha however, which is more than enough to power the phone’s processor and screen combination for a full day. In the camera department it includes a front facing VGA camera and a rear facing 5 megapixel camera complete with LED flash.
The phone will be available from 29th September in the US, available exclusively through Verizon. The price point will be $199.99 for a 2 year contract and that does include all the accessories. Other markets will follow after the US launch.
